Patrick Watson - “Adventures in your own backyard” (live at SXSW 2012)

Mr. Watson once again gives us his hauntingly beautiful take on folk music. His tender soothing voice, almost eery yet comforting. Back with a new album, he proves he can pull on those heartstrings, with harmonies, gorgeous poetic lyrics and wounded innocence.

Alex Winston - “Locomotive”

One of my personal fav Take Away Show videos!! European scenery and architecture, set to some beautiful harmonies and music. Alex Winston is truly a free spirit and a passionate individual, with a unique tone that brings her songs to life! I can’t say more great things about her debut album, “KING CON”. It’s definitely one of a kind.

Jinja Safari - “Hiccups”

This Aussie “band of brothers” really know what to do to get you thinking of all things enchanted, fantastical and wonderful! A jolt of afro pop and jolly indie pop melodies that will keep you wanting MORE. This song and music video just makes me smile, it reminds me of the vibrancy of life & the joy of mixing both music and color! :)

Trust me when I say, you’ll be seeing tons more from them in the future.

Keane - “Disconnected”

Keane is planning on showing us what they can REALLY do, with their new album Strangeland! I have to say, being a huge Keane fan, this album has been such a great way for them to say, “Hey! We have not lost our touch!” and Blows US out of the water with such soaring vocals, larger than life tunes that in Keane fashion, evokes a boat load of emotion! Tom Chaplin’s signature smooth vocals haunts and uplifts this album, along with memorable lyrics and churning melodies. I can safely say, KEANE is back in the building and planning on sentimental “world domination”.

Disconnected is one of my favorites off their latest installation, “Strangeland” and for one thing, this music video is frighteningly amazing! One of their most creative, unique works ever in my opinion. :) Keane fans will not be disappointed - “Hopes & Fears” is not their only great piece of work. This Is one for the books.

PICTURE SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORDS

Spending as much time outside, gathering up as much inspiration as I can from my environment.  Sometimes you just have to alter your vantage point and the world looks completely different than it did the day before….

Learning how to be alone is the best thing you can do for yourself. Don’t depend on someone else for happiness. That comes from within. Do what makes you happy because no one else will. Relationships should be complementary. Anything more and you’ll lose yourself. Anything less and you’re better off without. Follow your heart, but listen to your head, it will keep you from getting lost. Sometimes it’s ok to get lost because finding your way back is how we learn and know better for next time. Even though every day is an uncertainty, we can find certainty in the choices we make. Choose to be happy and the rest will follow.

MARNI & H&M!!

Despite being as busy as ever, I still always manage to find time to go shopping. I think it’s become an innate ability of sorts, a very dangerous one. Nothing new, but H&M’s collaboration with Marni finally came out today, and I made the decision to head down after work to see if I could get my grubby hands on some pieces. I figured my chances would be higher as:

A) It’s the middle of the week
B) People are working?

Unfortunately the only article of clothing I was looking for was already sold out when I made it in so I went straight for accessories as I was so not walking out empty handed, not after freezing my butt off. I quickly snatched up a pair of earrings, a belt and a scarf. Just as I was about to head out of Marni heaven, I noticed a SA carrying a box containing some sunglasses. I wasn’t too sure if she was purchasing them for herself or if she was putting them back out (as at this point, everyone was now allowed in and so SA’s were also trying to grab some things for themselves). Taking no chances, I asked her if I could have them and she kindly handed them over. I stumbled out of H&M 15 minutes later with a pair of earrings and sunglasses.

Although I did score some Marni, I was bummed out as the one pair of earrings that I had really wanted were snatched right out of my hands. Just as it sounds. I didn’t realize people were so aggressive, all I wanted were those earrings pal. I will find you. Apology was so not accepted, it’s a battle now.

Bag

Boxed up

At one point while I was inside, I said to myself: “If I can’t find anything, I’ll just ask for a stupid bag.” Because quite honestly, I was not going to let all my effort go to waste.

Earrings
Sunnies

I didn’t realize that these earrings were clip-ons, and that the sunglasses were men’s, but in the end I think I’m quite content with my purchases. I snapped some pictures with my iPhone to show how the earrings and sunglasses look, what do you think? I’m not 150% set on the sunglasses, they don’t look awful though, and they’re really sturdy.

I hope you all had lovely weather wherever you are, NEW YORK had fantastic weather for this entire week (unfortunately it’s about to end, but oh well). Here’s to another weekend!

XOXO,

Addie

HOW TO WEAR LACE IN 2012

How To Wear Lace…
Lace is very womanly  and it never really goes out of fashion, as lace clothing can be found among chain- store clothing rails throughout the year. Lace will become a popular fashion, and featured in many clothing shopes. When it’s not so popular, lace becomes a classic and still remains in the fashion market.

Lace clothing gives a chic look, and can look beautiful without exertion.`But there’s a few risks in wearing lace clothing, for example you can look too Gothic.

How you should wear lace.
You should avoid wearing jewelery with lace, as this will probably look over the top. Wear it with minimum jewelery. If you choose wearing lace wear it with stud earrings, or a gold bangle. Pearls are not good with lace.

Go for fine lace, rather than large chunky patterns. On the subject of hems, another one to avoid is a jagged, uneven cut. Medieval like fashion looks very silly on most people!

Never wear white stockings, unless your going to a dress-up party! Black lace stockings are hot with skirts in winter, but don’t ever wear them with a denim skirt. Denim skirt plus black lace stockings is running the risk of looking trailer-trash. Avoid bright coloured skirts too. Black stockings will always go best with a black skirt. If your wear black stockings with a black skirt, go for a different coloured top, to avoid looking Gothic.

Lace panels on clothing is a good alternative to full lace garments.

If a clothing item is made completely of lace, wear it down with simple clothing. Plain, bold colours are good, all colours go with black, but brown. It’s not really a good look to wear lace with clothing that is patterned or printed.

Be careful about wearing denim with lace. A garment with minimal lace, and particularly white lace, goes great with denim. But don’t take it any further, like wearing a top made of completely lace, with a pair of jeans. It’s a sort of stereotypical look, that doesn’t look that nice.

Minimalism and immaculacy doesn’t cease to impress designers over and over again, this way fueling the reputation of the all white fashion trend. The Spring & Summer 2011 all white fashion trend hypnotizes the public with its blinding and at the same time heart-warming visual impression. Those who would like to enjoy the summer breeze early in the next season should definitely take a closer peek at the outfit ideas provided by the most valued and spectacular designer collections of this Spring & Summer 2011

So forget about “practicalness” and step over “it is too festive”. White color doesn’t need any accessory, it is very fresh and festive color.
Let’s begin with white blouses. Having a couple of white shirts or blouses in your wardrobe you can combine them with pants, shorts, long skirts and pencil skirts.

The plait obsession continues, from complicated forms at Alexander McQueen to classical atHermès and Valentino.
The fashion world has fallen in love with the plait all over again, women are so lucky if they have long hair. Tried to do a French plait yesterday and looked very irregular, need a bit of practice. There are so many different ways to wear it! Celebs show us how it’s done for evening wear to the one side. Also there is the messy way with only one or two plaits and the favourite look is a long plait to the side.

Let’s see the gallery “how to wear Plaits and Braids this season”:

Fashion Lesson. BOHEMIAN STYLE AND FASHION

BOHO-style is romantic, somewhat slipshod and relaxed. A girl dressed in BOHO style is independent, unprejudiced and always goes ahead without fear.
But how to achieve a boho-chic look? If you are interested in womens boho today here are a couple of tips how to have glamorous and bohemian look.

You’re going to need to have a great pair of high boho heels to complete your boho look. The boho necklace is another thing that you can choose to be bold with. A necklace is too attention-getting so you need to ramp up the quality with a piece like this. You’ll want to go for a large, bold necklace that really makes a statement.
The hat can give your wardrobe a hint of your bohemian style even when you aren’t wearing a lot of the other pieces in your collection.

You will need a boho maxi dress to complete your full look. This is a long dress that’s printed in the bohemian style. You’ll want to keep the rest of your look fairly simple when wearing this piece because it makes a full statement all on its own. A little necklace will be enough to compliment this dress. It’s worth buying a boho maxi dress that has a good fit and is made of a durable material so that you can wear it again and again. Again braids!Braids always look fashionable, chic and stylish.

The other dress that you will need is a boho mini dress. It’s fine to get a laced dress as well. In fact, a great laced boho mini dress with a pair of sexy boho boots is a terrific outfit for the stylish woman. A lacy cloak on this dress hints at the boho style. This allows you to really play it up with the boho accessories if you want to and to show off your great boho heels without over-doing the look.

The stylish boho woman is going to need to be smart about choosing a handbag that compliments her bohemian style. What you don’t want to do here is to be mistaken on the side of being too casual. Make sure that you select one that’s made of high quality materials and that has a unique feature (such as the handle here). Choose a bohemian print, chic and “loud”.

One of the things that you’ll try to do when putting together a modern boho look is to avoid getting anything too gaudy. However, when you  are selecting some of the smaller accessories, it’s going to be good to choose some bolder colors. Look for womens boho headbands like the one pictured here which have a bit of a hippie hint to them and may be bolder in color and print than some of the larger pieces in your boho wardrobe.

An important key element in bohemian fashion is the colors. Typical boho colors are Earthy Colors. So focus on black, brown, cream white, khaki and olive green as your main fashion color palette.

Wear affordable accessories and details! Bohemian fashion doesn’t have to be expensive. Instantly transform a pair of jeans and a white tunic shirt into a boho outfit with a brown leather boho handbag, gold and layered necklace, ethnic embroidered scarf, multiple bangle bracelets, gladiator sandal shoes and so on.

Skirt is an indispensable thing in the wardrobe of every woman. This winter you’ll be plenty to choose from. Fashion designers represented a big variety of colors, styles, textures, variations of detail, so that we can say that the skirt in the cold season will be one of the most stylish woman’s wardrobe items.

Now is the time to get rid of jeans and pants and put on a skirt and heels.

Leather skirts.
The fashion hit of this season. A leather skirt is an amazing way to turn heads and get noticed. It can turn a woman into a lady vamp, and it can turn a teenage girl into a woman. It’s one piece of clothing that can look cold and hard in a closet, but warm and sexy when it’s worn right way.
Leather skirts from Jean Paul Gaultier, Ports 1961, Tommy Hilfiger, Aigner, Holly Fulton, Chanel and Hermes

Warm skirts.
This season you don’t have to choose between beauty and health. This winter designers advise to wear fur skirts.
Fur skirts seen at Betty Jackson, Matthew Williamson and Albino.

High waist skirts.
You should wear high waist skirt with thin polo-neck sweater or blouse tucking it into your skirt.
Seen at Temperley London, Badgley Mischka, Antonio Marras, Sonia Rykiel, Nicole Farhi and Roccobarocco.

Pencil skirts.
Designers refreshed classical models with bright prints, appliqué, flounces and patch pockets.
Pencil skirts from Zac Posen, DKNY, Donna Karan, Ports 1961, J. Saunders, Tsumori Chisato and Elie Saab.

Mini skirts.
Mini skirts are extremely fashionable this season. But fashion designers advise to forget about tight-fitting skirts and choose trapezoid cut.
Seen at Issa London, Acne, Ungaro, Thakoon, Tibi and Herve Leger
